Todo empezo en 1982 cuando Marian Gold conoció a Frank Mertens y a Bernhard Lloyd en un bar . Los tres parecieron sintonizar en el acto y formaron un grupo llamada Forever Young en sus comienzos ,nombre que le darían a una de sus canciones mas populares mas adelante,. Ellos tocaron su primer espectáculo cerca de año nuevo en 1982.Se puede decir que los Alphaville se inpiraban en grupos como los OMD y Los Ultravox .
